Today, I was excited to try a roast of Ethiopian beans from 1000 Faces Coffee. Roasted in Athens, Georgia and harvested in Reko, Ethipoia, these beans are roasted on traditional African beds at 1850-2100 meters under some of the highest sustainable specifications. Though this roast may be a bit on the light side for some, it's delicate, balanced body is surprisingly flavorful (reminiscent of chamomile tea). Another great #BeanoftheWeek, this one from @counterculturecoffee. These beans, roasted yesterday (label 1/26/15), were imported from the Pacific Island of Huapu, East Timor. Though East Timorese coffee beans are commonly known for their bitterness and heavy body, this roast begs to change this stereotype. With a medium body, bright, fruity tones, and hints of white pepper and even maple syrup, Counter Culture Coffee's organic, sustainable Huapu beans set the standard for Pacific coffee outside of Indonesia. Thanks to @counterculturecoffee for sending these over; I can't wait to try beans from them again soon! I used a medium-coarse grind, with 80 milliliters of grounds in a 16 oz. press.
